This week's interview is with one of the Godfathers of Strength and Conditioning, Dan John. For years I have looked up to Dan as a coach and man in general. He is a no-bullshit, do what works kind of guy.

Coach was a 2x Highland Games Champion, a full bright scholar, and has coached Olympians, special forces, professional athletes as well as thousands of ordinary folks.

He has written for numerous magazines, newspapers, and websites including Breaking Muscle, Men's Health, and T-nation for years.

We talk about some technical things like the minimum effective dose and "internal pressure." My favorite part of the interview was talking a little sports psychology and hearing a few great analogies on the concept of being properly aroused for specific sports.

This week I made it back to Gym Jones with my old coach and mentor Rob Maximus McDonald.  If you don't already know, this is the guy that coached us (Hack's Pack) to win back to back affiliate cup championships.  He was a UFC fighter and is now the general manager of the Iron Cult Gym Jones in Salt Lake City.  
 
Rob trains professional athletes in many sports as well your average joe and jane.  What is the one thing he elicits out of every single person that walks through his doors? Effort.  He has built a culture of people that work extremely hard, and he has done that by leading by example.  He can bench 315 for 10 sets of 10.  He can get nearly 90 calories in a minute on an airdyne bike.  Every seminar he teaches or group he coaches, people trust and buy into his coaching because they know he is willing to suffer just like them.
 
This episode I've got my teammates Jacob Hutton and Adrian Conway on the show with me.  We talk about putting on size and strength, the mental game, how to build a strong culture in a gym, and how to build a strong team.

Andre has been a rehab specialist and a strength and conditioning coach for the past 20+ years and has worked with numerous college and professional programs for the development and maintenance of their athletes.
